Types of hearing aids

Hearing aids come in various styles, from tiny, invisible-in-the-canal models to those which sit behind the ear. Click on the styles to read more:

Behind the Ear Hearing Aid

Abbreviation:
BTE

With this type of hearing aid, all components sit within a casing behind the ear. Suitable for people with mild to profound hearing loss.

In the Canal

Abbreviation:
ITC

This type of hearing aid sits in the outer portion of the ear canal and is smaller than the I.T.E style. It can fit a wide range of hearing loss.

Receiver in the Canal

Abbreviation:
RIC

This type of hearing aid has a discreet casing that fits behind the ear. This device can fit a wide range of hearing loss and provide natural sound quality.

Completely in the Canal

Abbreviation:
CIC

This aid sits entirely in the ear canal and is also very discreet depending on your ear canal’s size and shape. Suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

In Ear Hearing Aid

Abbreviation:
ITE

This hearing aid fits inside the bowl of the ear. Due to its size, it's easier to handle if you have problems with dexterity and fits a wide range of hearing loss.

Invisible in the Ear Canal

Abbreviation:
IIC

This is the smallest type of hearing aid and sits deep within the ear canal, making it almost invisible when worn. Suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.
